NAPERVILLE UNIT EDUCATION ASSOCIATION INSTRUCTIONS & SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION, 2009-2010
AMOUNT: The Representative Assembly of the NUEA has allocated $3000 to be awarded for three scholarships in the amount of $1000 each.
ELIGIBILITY: Candidates must be the son or daughter of an NUEA member; the parent must have been a member since the previous school year. (The parent should be in at least his/her second year of employment with the district and in at least their second year of NUEA membership.) The candidate must be a currently enrolled high school student who will be enrolled in post-secondary schooling next year. Winners must provide proof of acceptance at a two or four year college or other professional or trade school.
CRITERIA: All forms that are part of the application must be sent in one envelope to the address below. All forms must arrive before 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010. No applicant whose forms arrive after that date and time will be considered. It is the candidate’s responsibility to collect and send all forms. No exceptions will be made to this deadline requirement.
The required forms include the following:
Student application form (SIX total pages)
One complete, current high school transcript
One copy of letter of acceptance from an accredited two or four year post-secondary school (or an explanation why none is attached).
**No personal interviews will be conducted this year. This is a change from previous years’ requirements.
The scholarships are not need-based. All applications are evaluated on the basis of academic success, school activities, volunteer/work experience, and thoughtful responses to essay questions. The three winners will be selected by a panel of NUEA members who review and evaluate all applications. (Applications will be assigned a number and applicants’ names will be removed before selection panel reads essays.) All applicants will be notified regarding the three scholarship recipients prior to May 14, 2010.
